Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-Up Month? Although you are more than welcome to stop by the library and register for a library card during any month of the year, September is a great reminder of the importance of libraries and all of the resources they have to offer.

What do you need to register for a library card? It is quite simple! All you need is a driver’s license or ID with an address within Schoolcraft County. Just moved to the area and haven’t switched your ID over yet? You can use your current ID along with a utility or tax bill showing your local address. That’s it! Once you have your card, you have access to our in-house materials as well as a wide variety of digital resources.

At the library, adult patrons may check out up to 10 items at a time and have two weeks to return or renew their materials. Items can be renewed as long as they are not on hold for another patron. You can renew materials over the phone, in person, or through your online account in the library catalog. Other materials available for checkout include DVDs and Blu-ray discs, audiobook CDs, magazines, and even our cake pans!

Patrons also have access to all of our digital resources, too! With your library card, you have access to apps including Hoopla, Libby, and Kanopy. Hoopla is my personal favorite. Ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and television shows are all available at the click of a button and can be borrowed instantly. If you’re looking for an audiobook to listen to, I highly recommend The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett on Hoopla. The voice actors make it a whole other experience!

Libby gives you access to ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines, and you can even read titles on your Kindle device. Libby operates more like a traditional library, where there are a limited number of copies of each title available, so you may have to place a hold on a popular book. Lastly, Kanopy provides free access to a variety of movies and television!
