It’s hard to believe we are going into another school year here at Manistique Area Schools. The mornings are getting a little cooler, the days are getting a little shorter, and we are gearing up for the beginning of another school year. Whether you are a student, parent, or teacher, the library is here for you as the new year begins. And for those of you who don’t fit into any of those categories, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you either!

For our students, we hope you find yourself using the library and all the resources it has to offer. We hope you see the library as a safe space, whether you’re here to find a good book to read outside of class or need a quiet place to study for an exam.

Our younger students can also benefit from our online resources. Through our website under “Services,” families can take advantage of Britannica School, Explora, PebbleGo, and more! Whether your child is starting a research project or simply wants some more nonfiction to read, we’ve got you covered.

For our older students, our online resources can be just as helpful. Students have access to Career Prep resources, including resume builders and interview preparation. Our college-bound students can take advantage of SAT and ACT preparation through MeL as well. For those more difficult assignments, students may want to utilize resources such as Britannica School, the Biography Reference Center, Explora, and more!

If nothing else, come visit us in the library and find a book to stick your face in and read rather than your phone. Even us adults are guilty of that one!

Parents, I’m sure most of you are in the stage of life where your priorities often come last. However, that doesn’t mean they should. Come into the library and check out a book that you’ll enjoy reading just for you. Too busy to read a physical book? Make sure you’re signed up for our digital resources and take advantage of Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy. Heading to an away volleyball game but still want to unwind? I highly recommend Calamity Club on audiobook. The only time you have to read is at night in bed? Pull up an eBook on your tablet or Kindle. Have a little one at home who needs something to fill their time? Bring them down to our story time starting in September!

The library is here for you during this crazy, busy, yet unforgettable stage of life.

For our teachers, you have all of these resources available to you and your students. Maybe the more they know about what is available to them, the fewer scripted papers you’ll receive! Bring your class down to check out some books, explore the collection, or just get a change of scenery from the classroom. If you are working on a specific unit or topic, let us know and we can help pull books and resources for your class. We also have access to online resources that can help students with research, projects, and assignments. If there is a book you would like to read to your class that we don’t have, search our catalog or let us know and we can look into getting it through an interlibrary loan. We are always happy to help make the library a resource for you and your students, so don’t hesitate to reach out! At the elementary level, if you would like a mystery reader in your classroom, email me! I’d love to make an appearance. 

For our patrons who don’t fit into any of the above categories, you are welcome as always! We love to see your faces in the library. Whether you are searching the collection, checking out a cake pan, printing a return label, or simply stopping in to say hello, we enjoy seeing you here.

And with that, we are ready for the 2026–2027 school year. Go Emeralds!
